After being given a site in Oxford, GA and specific programmatic requirements for an arts and media center, I began looking at light and staging views as my focusing factors. I created a longitudinal plan arranged along a Pompidou Centre-type staircase that climaxes at a view of the beautiful wooded area to the west of the site. I opened up the walls along the east side to let in morning light as well as all the diffuse northern light during the day by making the northern side as transparent as possible. The Southern wall got a treatment of vertical louvers to redirect light into the spaces, but not overbearingly. Public access spaces are located towards the east end while private spaces are slotted in and separated like fingers to let in light to regions below. Communal gathering spaces take up residence to the west along the entire building are sawtooth skylights that let in precious northern light along the upper level.
